The concept for our seaweed dietary supplements began in 2016 and was born from our love of the sea, our unique knowledge of seaweed and its countless benefits for the human body. Sea Ór supplements have been created following years of extensive and proven research and are the most scientifically advanced, active seaweed supplements to be launched onto the international wellness and dietary supplement market.
Formulated using a proprietary blend of scientifically selected seaweeds, our exclusive marine complex Orplex™ and specially selected vitamins and minerals, they will enhance your health & wellbeing from the inside out.
To develop the most advanced and active seaweed supplements on the market, our scientists worked closely with the experts from the Nutrition Innovation Centre for Food and Health (NICHE) in Ulster University, Coleraine.
To ensure that only the finest seaweeds were used in the formulation of our supplements an in-depth study was undertaken. Our resident nutritionist reviewed over 300 scientific papers on the composition of different seaweeds. The detail outlined in the process of this study was so advanced, a scientific paper was produced and submitted to a peer-reviewed scientific journal. We are proud to say that the study was accepted by Nutrition Reviews and is due to be published in April 2019. It will be one of the most comprehensive review papers ever published on edible seaweeds and their benefits to health.
Following 2 years of research and development, we used the knowledge gathered to create our trademarked blend of seaweed, Orplex™, and Sea Ór was born.
While working on the review, we collaborated with Shannon Applied Biotechnology Centre based at the Institute of Technology Tralee. Laboratory tests were carried out on extracts from the two types of seaweeds used in Sea Ór supplements (Laminaria digitata and Fucus serratus) to determine their antioxidant activity. The results show that Fucus serratus has significantly greater antioxidant activity (approx. 8 times greater) than the control (Vitamin E).

FUCUS SERRATUS SEAWEED
This amazing plant survives by filtering the ocean for nutrients and as a result, amasses a huge amount of minerals and vitamins. Used for hundreds of years in seaweed baths, the oils from this seaweed have antioxidant properties.
LAMINARIA DIGITATA SEAWEED
This is a dark brown seaweed that can grow to over two metres in length. It is commonly eaten in Asian cuisine, where it is known as Kombu. Among the several vitamins and minerals found in Laminaria digitata it is particularly rich in iodine which is contributes to the normal thyroid function and normal production of thyroid hormone and contributes to normal cognitive function, energy metabolism, and maintenance of the skin.
